Overview of the week
Day 1 - Morning
- Cardiac Anatomy – LV, RV, LA, RA, Aorta, Pulmonary artery, MV, TV, AV, PV, IVC
- Explain and demonstrate how to obtain parasternal long and short axis images
- Explain and demonstrate how to obtain apical, subcostal and suprasternal notch images
- Introduction to 2D measurements and color flow Doppler if time allows
Day 1 - Afternoon
- Practice scanning in the scan lab
Day 2 - Morning
- 2D measurements
- Color flow Doppler, Pulse wave Doppler, and Continuous wave Doppler
- How to evaluate normal valves, valvular regurgitation, and valvular stenosis
- Tissue doppler, LA volume, LV biplane (Simpson's method)
Day 2 - Afternoon
- Practice scanning in the scan lab
Day 3 - Morning
- Most commonly visualized cardiac masses
- How to evaluate LV dysfunction, ischemia, and cardiomyopathies
- How to evaluate diastolic dysfunction
- Watch videos and discuss pathology
Day 3 - Afternoon
- Practice scanning in the scan lab
Day 4 - Morning
- Recognizing and evaluating VSD’s, ASD’s and PFO’s
- Recognizing and evaluating pericardial tamponade and pleural effusion
- Watch videos and discuss pathology
Day 4 - Afternoon
- Practice scanning in the scan lab
Day 5
- How to compose a preliminary report
- Overview of the week and answer anyquestions
- Practice scanning in the scan lab
